Tournaments: a leaderboard instead of wagering
In a tournament you compete with other players rather than meet a wagering condition. The value lies in the scoring mechanic.
How it works
Participation usually needs no separate entry fee. You pick a tournament from the promotions list, play the listed slots with real stakes and collect points. Those at the top of the table win prizes. Qualifying slots are named in the description, for example from the catalogues of Pragmatic Play or Playson, which often organise promo tournaments.
Scoring mechanics
The mechanic dictates the whole strategy. A multiplier tournament, for example, does not reward large turnover, and a total-wagered tournament does not reward one lucky spin.
| Mechanic | How points are earned | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Max multiplier | Points for the biggest “x” on one spin | Those ready for high variance and a small stake |
| Total wagered | Points for the volume of bets placed | Those with a turnover budget |
| Total won | Points for the overall sum of wins | Steady, regular play |
Tournament versus bonus
Prize funds, unlike a deposit bonus, are often paid with no wagering or a low one, but that depends on each promotion’s rules. As with bonuses, a list of qualifying games applies: playing a slot not on the list earns no points. Compare it with the welcome package.
Tips
- Read the mechanic before the first bet.
- Set a budget and do not go over it.
- Pick a slot whose volatility suits the mechanic (catalogue).
- Watch the end date (how to read promotions).
