Maximum bet while wagering: how one stake can void a bonus
Almost every bonus has a stake ceiling in its rules. Where to find it and why it is breached by accident.
Players rarely lose a bonus because of wagering. More often it is withdrawn for breaking another clause — the stake ceiling.
What the rule is
While a bonus is active, a single bet cannot exceed a certain amount (for example fixed hryvnias or a percentage of the bonus). A breach is grounds for voiding the bonus and the winnings from it.
Where it is broken
- Ante bet and “bonus buy”. In some slots they automatically raise the stake. In Sweet Bonanza and Gates of Olympus, for example, ante mode makes each spin more expensive.
- Quick stake changes mid-bonus. After a win it is tempting to “raise”, and the limit slips by unnoticed.
- Autoplay. If autoplay is set to the maximum, you may not notice you have crossed the line.
How to stay safe
- Find the words “maximum bet” in the promotion rules.
- Set a stake in the game with headroom — say half the limit.
- Switch off ante and bonus-buy modes.
- Do not change the stake mid-streak.
- For autoplay, set a stop on balance change.
Bonus and withdrawal
Even if the limit is respected, withdrawal is possible only after wagering is done. How to compute turnover is in the article on the wagering formula. And how much of your stake actually counts depends on the game: game contribution.
